My Personal Growth Plan

Over the years I've learned the importance of a personal growth plan and I've realized that very few people take growth seriously after they graduate college. They fail to become life long learners...sure they may get promoted in their companies over time, but they fail to reach their maximum potential.

One note: I am constantly revamping my growth plan. Every 6 months I evaluate everything I do and cut things out I don't think are adding much value and replace them with things that I believe will take me to the next level. Here is my current growth plan:

Books:
  • I try to read at least 2 books a month 1 Spiritual/1 Leadership
  • I highlight and mark quotes, stories, and nuggets that I'd like to file and teach
  • After I read a book I make note cards of the quotes and nuggets
  • Then I make copies of the pages where I liked things and stick them in a file by subject
Audio:
  • On top of church, I try to listen to as many podcasts and sermons as I can in a week, they are always on in my car, on my ipod, etc.
  • I subscribe to two leadership clubs: Maximum Impact and Growing Leaders
Blogs/Net:
  • This has been a new thing, but I am now obsessed with reading blogs and other great sites on the Internet that add value to me (check out my blog roll)
Mentors:
  • I have a set list of mentors I try my best to serve on a monthly basis
  • I also try to meet them for breakfast once a month and I ask them questions (that I have prepared ahead of time)
Formal:
That is basically what I do to grow on purpose... I hope it helps you. Realize that your plan will probably look completely different. Don't try to copy someone else, learn what works for you.
